When shopping for a plasma television, one of the first things you have to decide is how big the screen should be. You will need at least three inches of space at the top, six inches on either side for speakers and adequate space behind the unit for ventilation.

Look at the space you have available and the distance you and your family and friends will sit from the screen. While a huge plasma television might seem like a good idea, you don’t want to deal with distortion or look at an image that is so large you have to turn your head to take in the whole picture. Plasma televisions are available in sizes that range from 37 inches to 65 inches.  

When you consider a plasma TV purchase you will also need to decide what options are best for your needs. Nearly all plasma TVs have speakers by you might want to go for surround sound speakers or a speaker system you can install in the front of the viewing room.

Everyone has their favorite brand and model of plasma television. The large name brands offer respectable warranties and service packages. It is important to understand the warranty on the plasma television you want to buy. These warranties are separated into two categories (parts and labor and a warranty on the panel itself. You should also look at the prescribed life span of the plasma television.  

While the manufacturer specification is based on averages it will give you some idea of the length of time you can expect to use your plasma television screen before you have to replace the TV. Remember that television technology is changing fast so you shouldn’t be too concerned about keeping the plasma television for ten or twenty years. By then it is likely you will want to go to the newer technology anyway!
